“No Body” Can Top Kaeto’s Alt-Pop Edge

An eyelid jolts open, and viewers enter a retro TV aesthetic. The music video for alt-pop artist Kaeto’s new single “No Body,” released Oct. 11, makes for a mesmerizing watch. With a sultry yet mystical sound, Kaeto has listeners question everything from anxiety to technology.

The Scottish-born, London-based musician said she wrote the song to explore observations from her own life, finding nuances in the ordinary to create new messages and new music. “No Body” covers smartphone obsessions and modern vanity, she said, but leaves room for listeners to find their own meaning in its profound lyrics.

I’m not trying to be preachy. I’m exploring these things because I’m doing them and I can’t stop … I don’t want to say too much about what it means as it can ruin what other people might interpret and I think that is more interesting and fun! I don’t want to impress my experience onto other people. For me, the music is more fun than the words I can sum up to describe it.

This psychedelic pop hit has an undulating melody. It soon flows into a choppier chant that builds to a powerful belt with a satisfying rasp. Magnetic and mesmeric with every note.

I would always want to know why
Why are we all watching you
Why are we all watching ourselves
Everybody’s got to know
Collectively we offer no help

~ “No Body”

Kaeto seems to stare through the screen in the music video. With flashing mood lighting and avant-garde dance, her alternative style is alluring. Directed by German filmmaker Paulra Romy, the masterpiece is a must-watch. Its edginess will put you in a trance as you groove along to Kaeto’s rolling, reverb-heavy track.

She’s been on our minds since last year’s debut, “Good Morning.” Now, “No Body” is her first release under Lava/Republic Records, with a promising career ahead. From her time in Clown School to her current work, Kaeto thrives in the unconventional and bursts with talent.

I’m so unashamed of myself, but music is where I go to explore these things. My subconscious vomited into the microphone.
