Forty-one years after the release of their classic track “New Moon On Monday,” Duran Duran has released a revamped version titled “New Moon (Dark Phase).” This reimagining comes to audiences on the groups most recent release, DANSE MACABRE – DE LUXE.
Keyboardist Nick Rhodes said that Danes Macabre was a spontaneous decision to create a record that “celebrated the madness and joy of Halloween.” However, the group felt that they had more creative energy to put into the album upon its release.
We unlocked an unexpected box of curiosity and creativity, which led us to reimagine some of our older songs, record cover versions of some of our favorites, and write several new pieces. This year, the inspiration was somehow still lingering, and I loved the idea of expanding the collection, because we could… Why not add some of the songs that we considered initially now that we had the luxury of a little more time?

Duran Duran’s decision to lean into the joy of Halloween helps “New Moon (Dark Phase)” stand out. Most tracks inspired by Halloween lean into the eeriness that defines the sonic tropes of the season, but “New Moon (Dark Phase)” has a brightness that is refreshing to hear in this context.
DANSE MACABRE – DE LUXE is currently available on streaming services, but physical copies will be available on October 25. The physical release of the album includes a limited-edition vinyl box set which includes a bonus LP featuring 7 new tracks, four of which are not available in any other format. The group will be celebrating All Hallows’ Eve in style at their now highly anticipated annual tradition, The Danse Macabre Halloween Party. Attendees are encouraged to show up in costume and celebrate at Madison Square Garden on Halloween night in style at Madison Square Garden on Halloween night.
