Jesica Hurst is a Toronto-based singer and songwriter with an unwavering passion for digging deep, getting vulnerable, and confronting her own thoughts and feelings through song. A classically trained pianist and self-taught vocalist and songwriter, Jesica enjoys weaving elements of her favorite genres together to create a graceful blend of pop, folk, and Americana. Taking inspiration from other female artists who embrace an introspective style — including Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lana Del Rey — Jesica’s approach to songwriting is honest and simple, and almost always based on her own experiences with love, loss, and life.

Jesica has dedicated years to honing her craft and finding her own voice behind the scenes and is finally ready to embrace the new adventure of sharing her music with the world. Splashing into this new adventure, she has just released her first single – “Never Mine.” It’s an indie-pop song about accepting lost love, inspired by the amicable end of an almost decade-long relationship. It acts as the soundtrack for someone coming to terms with the need to let go of something that was once their entire world but is no longer theirs to hold onto. It’s bittersweet – a sad story, with a happy ending.

Slow piano keys back ethereal vocals create a soft introduction before a resounding swell that lifts right before the first verse. Sweetly layered vocals echo above the delicate instrumental, embracing listeners in the warm atmosphere of understanding and acceptance. Reverbing synths balance the subtle vibratos, creating a sense of echo and longing, but also a sense of peace and calm. While this is a slower and airy song, there really is not hint of sadness in the lyrics nor tone. With soothing vocals and rich melodies, Jesica reinforces the realizations she has come to and brings listeners along to that moment of peace.
