néomí Releases Acoustic Masterpiece, “redemption” Leading Launch of Debut EP

Charged on the recent releases of “if i wasn’t made for love,” “eyes filled with sky,” “i’ll be there,” and “not good enough,” Surinamese-Dutch folk-pop singer and songwriter, néomí, returns with the release of “redemption” on June 24th. Previous tracks have received critical acclaim as the artist continues to rise on the indie music radar. She has recently supported the likes of Novo Amor, Celine Cairo, and HAEVN on their tour dates as she celebrates the recent release of her debut EP, Before.

néomí’s music journey began as a child when she began to study piano; however, after five years, she quit and vowed never to play music again. Four years later, she felt the pull of music again as a live performance of Ben Howard‘s “Old Pine” charged her with inspiration. She then stumbled into the creation of music again, set on honing her own sound and learning guitar.

Since then, the year 2020 was set on being her “breakout year,” however, the world as we knew it shifted, and plans changed. With first singles recorded and waiting to be released, she continued to build her catalogue of new tracks as the world slowly returned to normality. She recently found herself signed to PIAS, and much more songs are yet to take flight in the world to be heard.

From her debut EP, Before, newest track, “redemption” caps off the first part of her journey showcasing an ode to the family that raised her.

I wrote “redemption” with a smile on my face which doesn’t happen that often. This song is just truly a thank you to my family. I have so much love for them. I am grateful for the culture my mother gave me, the wisdom my father passed on and the life lessons my sister taught me.

This song is about the nostalgic feeling of being younger and feeling safe with my family. It is about asking for forgiveness for not understanding how precious family is, and about understanding how precious family is. It is me telling them: “I would do anything to give them back the years they had my back,” and a promise I will have theirs forever.

Beginning with a tumble of acoustic guitar pouring into the soundscape, we are pulled straight in as néomí’s vocals are highlighted with a joyful reprieve contrasting the bounce of the instrumentals. Vocals continue to soar throughout the track as she sings in thanks to the life and the path that led her to where she is now and hopes to continue to lead.
