The French, emotional dance music phenom Mr Tout Le Monde released his newest album YOU on September 13, 2024.

The highly anticipated release finally completed his SUN-HER-YOU album trilogy. It follows up its incredibly successful predecessor HER which has been streamed more than a mind-boggling 70 million times. The album marks a special milestone on his musical journey, as the introspective and soulful stories it tells were directly inspired by the ones fans sent his way via a special WhatsApp channel. With YOU, Mr Tout Le Monde proves his multifaceted talent, blending all kinds of emotions with his signature electronica spin. It is a roller coaster of emotions, going deep into the human experience and masterfully touching on sensitive topics such as mental health.

Following his successful tours in Canada and Germany, Mr Tout Le Monde set stages all across the US ablaze on his very first nine-date US tour. Furthermore, his headline debut at Le Trianon in Paris on November 15, sold out four months in advance.

The album starts out with the “Intro (YOU),” which is a musically underlined voicemail recording of a man and a woman catching up with each other. The two of them tell each each other how important they are to them. Finally they agree to talk once they meet again. It fades out with a beautiful piano melody, transitioning into track 2.

Thinking Of” continues to build on the piano melody the intro ended with. The track ties in perfectly with the title of the album YOU, as the lyrics go,

“I′ve been thinking of you sometime”

~ “Thinking Of”

Combined with the piano, a techno melody sets in, creating calming vibes akin to a summer sunset.

My Lover” brings us similarly calming vibes as Mr Tout Le Monde shines with his beautiful vocals. The song portrays a rather uncertain relationship with the protagonist seeking assurance of love. He asks his partner for the slightest proof of their love so he can call them his lover with certainty. This time, the techno track smoothly incorporates wonderful guitar riffs.

For track number 4, “In the Shadow,” Mr Tout Le Monde collaborated with the Oregon-based singer-songwriter Moorea, bringing us a mesmerizing play of their combined voices. The song deals with depression and not being okay. As the title suggests, it shows us the sad reality of being lost in the shadow and not knowing what to do or where to go.

Wonderful World” pulls us right back out of this darkness again. It starts out with a gentle acoustic guitar before transitioning into a vibrant beat. However, it still manages to maintain the album’s overall calm vibes. It appreciates the wonderful world we live in together, acknowledging all the precious things such as a gentle breeze, beautiful flowers, or enjoying the company of friends.

In “Before You Go,” Mr Tout Le Monde collaborated with the Swedish singer-songwriter Winona Oak, creating uniquely enchanting soundscapes together in their storytelling. The song tells a story of departure and trying to save a relationship. The protagonist asks his partner to take his hand once more before she leaves.

Mask Off” starts out with an epic violin melody, leading into a rising beat, coupled once again with Mr Tout Le Monde’s amazing vocals. In this track he explains his inability to take his mask off, as protecting his true self means survival to him. It also puts his mask in the spotlight as his trademark sign.

Alongside the track “Mask Off,” Mr Tout Le Monde released an astonishing music video, featuring him in a desert, wearing his golden mask.

Circle” sheds light on a relationship that isn’t meant to be. The protagonist acknowledges that they weren’t meant to get along and that it isn’t right. Yet the two keep running in circles and wanting each other back. Once again, the song is accompanied by heavenly, melodic techno tracks, making us want to dance the night away.

All Alone” is yet another tragic song on the album. It conveys the fear of being all alone and having to experience the own inner world alone. However, there is still beauty to be found, like the serenity of the starlight. In the end, the fright that comes with the loneliness stays though.

Without You” elaborates on the previous track even further. It sheds light on the human experience and the existential questions it entails. It tells the story of missing an important person in one’s life and what we are supposed to do without them. Who are we supposed to be? Where are we supposed to go? While there are no immediate, clear answers, the song retains a spark of hope in that we might find the answer one day.

Our Past” in its entirety feels like a thank you to life. It illustrates holding your world in your arms and looking back on a life rich in experiences. It’s about cherishing each moment in the present while looking forward to everything the future holds.

Down” feels like Mr Tout Le Monde’s response to his own song “Mask Off.” While he himself never takes his mask off, he tells the person he sings to, to not try and cover up. It’s about celebrating one’s own nature instead of trying to please others. He further adds the importance of looking past appearances and prioritizing what’s on the inside.

The final song on the album “I Don’t Know” talks about the uncertainty of who we are in this world. It wonders about if we are the strange ones, or if it’s the other’s fault for not understanding us. Mr Tout Le Monde further details how he sees something strange in their eyes. He wonders if it’s just himself he sees like a mirage, hoping for them to see that he doesn’t know the answers either.
