Morgan Saint’s recent single, “End Of Time,” is a beautiful, queer ode to falling in love with her best friend. Saint collaborated with her wife, Carley Ridersleeve, in writing and producing the song, with Ridersleeve directing the stunning accompanying music video. The end result is a wondrous love letter that the pair penned together.
As expected from Ridersleeve’s vibrant directing and visual editing, the video is effervescent, reminiscent of a perfume ad or a Tony Scott movie. The imagery of roses and sea foam (both considered symbols of Aphrodite) aligns seamlessly with the song’s simple yet heartfelt lyrics.
Can we stay together love of mine?
Just us two till the end of time?
Look at me girl, don’t be shy
Face the light and we’ll be just fine
“End Of Time” features an ambient electropop sound, feeling like a whimsical take on Lykke Li. It could seamlessly fit into the Twilight film soundtracks, enhancing scenes of Edward and Bella waxing poetic about their eternal love in the sunny meadow hidden deep in the intoxicating fog and foliage of the forest. The video evokes this visually, with Saint dancing amongst trees in some shots as she croons out the sentimental lyrics.
Saint’s distinctive airy vocals match the production, embracing the synth elements of her electropop style and subtly turning her voice into an instrument, making the song all the more tender. “End Of Time” feels like a body scan performed with selenite wands: a magical warmth flowing through the body and speaking to the experiences of a select few. In this case, LGBTQ+ people and their experiences with romance, particularly when they feel there’s no way out of the friendzone.
It’s not meant to be a bittersweet listen, though. Unlike many sapphic songs, which feel tragic in their typically unrequited love, Saint and Ridersleeve celebrate each other and their story, pushing for queer youth to follow their hearts.
Fans are absolutely living for the single, expressing their love for both the song and the music video, with it racking up views and streams. While the track is already holding its own, Saint confirmed that it and her two singles from 2023 are paving the way for her next full-length album.
It’s currently unknown when this new LP will drop, but it’s a big deal, as her last LP, ALIEN, was released in 2018. Saint’s discography has held itself up with her innate talent through an EP and singles since then, but the release of three singles and an announcement of a new LP is nothing to scoff at.
It’s a pivotal time in Saint’s career, with her consistently putting out banger after banger as the lead-up to her next full project. “End Of Time” is an incredibly strong single that intimately shows the relationship between Saint and Ridersleeve while speaking to listeners and their own queer experiences, and hinting at the writing and production the pair will venture into together.
“End Of Time” can be streamed on all major music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud, along with her 2023 singles while fans await her next project.
