MNERVA releases heartbreaking new song “Sorry (Forget About Me)”
A week of summer has already passed, and we’ve been reintroduced to the powers of the sun all over again. No matter which state you live in or what state you’re in, it’s been so hot that it hurts. Not in a bad way of course, but that enjoyable feeling of kicking our shoes (or sandals) off and having a raging good time. No school, no work, just full unadulterated fun. Great right?
As much as we are out and about doing our thing, the music scene is too, and songs have been coming swiftly like jabs from a prized fighter in all directions. Cool beans, but then there are tunes that just demands your attention. So much so, that you need to stop what you’re doing in order to fully experience the piece itself. Just like works of art in museums such as The Louvre that whisper “look at me.”.
This line of thinking has applied to past summer hits such as “Schools Out” by Alice Cooper, “Summer of 69” by Bryan Adams, “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles and so much more. Now though, in the year 2022 we have one from Matt Wagner, aka MNERVA entitled “Sorry (Forget About Me) which was recently released on June 16th.
While others invoke us to dance, MNERVA’s song lets us breathe and sit down in a corner. Just like a friend confiding in us in a coffee shop or in the comfort of our own homes. Here we can see that the purpose of this song isn’t just to entertain, rather to tell a story that we can all relate to a certain degree. One that lets us into his personal perspective where he describes a toxic love affair that finally came to an unflattering end. Which according to him, was written after making amends with his high-school girlfriend the year prior. The sad part about it all is that it all took place on the phone. An ending so mismanaged, that exactly mirrored the relationship they had back then. Wherein he finally realized that in the moments that they were together, though he loved her dearly. He was still a kid and unprepared for all commitment attached to loving someone deeper than any ocean that existed.
It’s a tragic tale of two individuals who drifted apart in time and grew apart even though they were constantly sticking to each other. While it is his journal entry for all of us to see, it’s also a warning for us to be wary of the relations we get into. It begs us to get to know the person first as well as our intentions before we jump right into one.
