The National’s Matt Berninger and indie dreamer Phoebe Bridgers collaborated last month for the premiere of “Walking on a String,” a project that is officially available on all streaming platforms as of this Wednesday. The single was originally written for Netflix’s “Between Two Ferns: The Movie,” which featured background performances from both artists. After a month of anticipation, Dead Oceans has finally released the track, and with two different versions. Both are characteristic of Bridgers’ and Berninger’s usual musical styles. The original song develops slowly, with elements of heavy indie rock as the bridge progresses. The alternative version builds as well, but with a relaxed ambiance. Bridgers has opened for The National in the past and will be joining the band in 2020 for all dates of their Australian tour. Until then, both versions of “Walking on a String” are now available to stream and download, and the music video can be found here.
