When the limited series adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel Daisy Jones & The Six hit Prime Video, the album released with it, Aurora, hit even harder. Filled with firecracker vocals and 70s flare, the record, produced by Amazon Studios and Hello Sunshine, has made an independent lasting impression. Now, Atlantic Records is proud to share Marcus Mumford & Maren Morris’ stunning version of the album’s top hit, “Look At Us Now (Honeycomb).” Co-written by GRAMMY Award winners Mumford & Blake Mills, the rendition is well-put together, deep and honey-sweet. Morris and Mumford also released a behind the scenes visual for the release, bringing us deeper into the rich musical world of Daisy Jones & The Six.
Mumford and Morris’ voice bring an extra twang of country to the hit song. Their voices blend on impact, yet retain individual flare during their respective verses. Morris has a similar, beautifully coarse infliction to Riley Keough, who plays Daisy Jones in the series and sings the original version of “Look At Us Now (Honeycomb).” The song is backed up by classic drums and acoustics, playing into a sharper electric sound on the way to the anticipatory bridge. After their vocals come to a close, the song ends on a perfect little plucking riff, as if to say this story isn’t over yet.
“Oh, we can make a good thing bad
How did we get here, how do we get out?
We used to be something to see
Oh baby, look at us now”
“Look At Us Now (Honeycomb)”
Daisy Jones & The Six details the rise and precipitous fall of a renowned rockband. Led by charismatic singers Daisy Jones and Bille Dunne (Sam Claflin), the band rises to the top then falls hard to the bottom, reconnecting decades later to tell the story. The show twists the heart and revs up the passion, which comes through strongest in the band’s powerful debut album Aurora. Maren Morris & Marcus Mumford capture the throes and thrills of Daisy Jones & The Six’s chemistry, carrying the buzz around the song into the summer.
