Maisie Peters Gets Personal in New Single, “Body Better,” for Upcoming Sophomore Album

Following her debut album You Signed Up for This with Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man records, pop-singer and songwriter Maisie Peters plans to release her sophomore album soon – having just dropped the first single of the upcoming album titled, “Body Better.” The new single is out via Gingerbread Man records/Elektra and is written by Maisie herself, alongside Ines Duff and producer Matias Tellez. Although Maisie had a writing partner, it seems the song still stems from her personal experience(s) from dating – sharing:

“‘Body Better’ is one of the most honest songs I’ve ever released, and definitely the most personal. I wrote it after a breakup and it deals with the ugly things you think to yourself in the aftermath, when you’re painstakingly going through every small thing you did and were and wondering what you could have changed. It’s a song about insecurity and vulnerability, about giving a lot of yourself away to someone who decides they don’t want it anymore, and knowing where to go from there.”

Listening to “Body Better” is sure to strike the heart strings of most, as it details the gut-wrenching feelings of heart-break, jealousy, and the mourning of an idea that was once so resolute. While the title isn’t quite revealing, and the opening verse subtle – the chorus uncovers it all, as Peters sings:

“Then I, I can’t help thinking that she’s got a better body / Has she got a body better than mine? / And I, I can’t help thinking, when you touched it, were you sorry? / Were you sorry like you weren’t at the time? / Loving you was easy, that’s why it hurts now / The worst way to love somebody is to watch them love somebody else and it work out / Now, I can’t help thinking that she’s got a better body / Has she got a body better than mine?”

“Body Better” Lyrics

If you aren’t heartbroken after those lyrics, you must be tough as nails. Who hasn’t been there? They say comparison is the thief of joy – and it’s true – but being vulnerable after a break-up comes with the territory. Maisie captures these emotions perfectly by putting her own heart on the line and opening up about her own internal thoughts, while also keeping the song upbeat and good-natured.

Currently, Maisie is supporting Ed Sheeran on his Mathematics Stadium tour in New Zealand and Australia before visiting Japan and Singapore, where she will be playing her first-ever headline shows.
