Maggie Rose embraces change on her new studio album, Half Moon, out now via One Riot Records.
Across 10 tracks, the GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter moves between Americana, soul, rock and pop while exploring vulnerability, relationships and a period of major change in her own life. The album was produced by Lawrence Rothman and Daniel Tashian and arrives alongside a new music video for album track “The Mission.”
Finding Half Moon
Maggie Rose began creating Half Moon while eight months pregnant with her first child. Working alongside Rothman and Tashian, she returned to Tashian’s home studio every few weeks to write, drawing from the complexities of womanhood, her closest relationships and the anticipation of becoming a mother.
That period eventually produced songs including “Red Shoes,” “Weekend Lover,” “Gentle Man” and the title track, each approaching a different part of the album’s broader story.
Six months after the birth of her son Graham, Rose brought the record to Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A. More than two dozen musicians contributed to the sessions, including guitarist Tom Bukovac, bassist Dennis Crouch and keyboardist Peter Levin, alongside members of Rose’s touring band.
For Rose, the album’s title also became a way of thinking about vulnerability and giving yourself room to change.
“We don’t need to shine full and bright all of the time to do what we’re meant to do,” Rose said of the record. “Like the moon, the whole of us is always there but just revealed differently depending on the light.”
Maggie Rose Takes Half Moon on the Road
The release comes during an active stretch on the road for Rose. Following her album release celebration at Nashville’s Grimey’s and a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, her schedule includes headline dates alongside appearances with Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and Little Feat.
Rose is also set for festival and special appearances throughout the fall, including AmericanaFest, Grand Point North and Mempho Fest, before continuing her headline run into November and December.
Half Moon follows another major period in Rose’s career after back-to-back GRAMMY nominations tied to her 2024 album No One Gets Out Alive and 2025 collaboration “Poison In My Well” with Grace Potter.
