A Full Moon and a New Song by Gus Benson, “Luna”
Released March 18, “Luna” is a song by Gus Benson all about a person they’re full of adoration for. Taking the name of the title of the song, “Luna” is the object of the singer’s affection. The lyrics are full of want and hopeful wishing of the right time and catching their eye. Benson longs for “Luna” to be theirs, even just for one night, and swears it will not be a mistake.
Gus Benson is a 20-year-old multi-instrumentalist from Charlotte, North Carolina, and took the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity. Benson began to dedicate his time to making music while attending college at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. “Luna” is just his third song, with many more to come.

Purposefully released on the day of a full moon, “Luna” is a song that opens with wispy chords with heavy influences from John Mayer that are clear in the guitar as the song opens and progresses. Benson’s smooth vocalism continues throughout the song, and the first chorus around the one-minute mark dives into the person’s infatuation with said “Luna.” The instrumental backing is a steady flow that elevates Benson’s vocals and allows the lyrics to really stand out. One can almost feel the longing for “Luna” through the combination of the instrumentals and Benson’s voice. Throughout the song, Benson also alludes to the moon. Luna is another name for the moon and he sings about the rising tide, a phenomenon influenced by the moon. Benson creates a poetic parallel between the moon and the woman in his newest song.
