South London powerhouse Lola Young is back and unapologetically herself on “One Thing,” a new single that teases what’s to come in her next musical chapter.
Behind “One Thing”
Anchored by fluttery melodies and a head-bobbing dub groove, “One Thing” blends Lola’s sharp spoken word delivery with sultry vocals in the chorus, offering a sound that’s playful, provocative, and effortlessly groovy.
It’s a song that on first listen sounds like I’m talking about one thing. Sex. Which I am, of course. . . However, sex in itself is never about one thing.
~ Lola Young

The cleverly layered track is as playful as it is provocative, and the video leans fully into that vision by flipping gender roles and serving up cinematic scenes that include a first date, an all-girls classroom, a boxing ring of exes… and Lola literally making out with herself.
I wanted to make a song and music video that is thought-provoking and highlights sex being both a fun and light thing, not always meaningful, as well as showing how gender roles can be reversed.
~ Lola Young
The Birth of a Rising Star
“One Thing” follows a massive year for Lola, whose platinum-certified #1 single “Messy” dominated charts globally and cemented her as one of the breakout stars of 2025. The track also topped the Billboard Pop Airplay, Hot Adult Contemporary, and Alternative Rock charts, and earned her the distinction of being the first female artist to have a debut single go #1 at both Pop and Alternative since Lorde’s “Royals.” In the UK, “Messy” held the top spot for four straight weeks.
Her recent collaborations with Tyler, The Creator (on CHROMAKOPIA’s “Like Him”) and Lil Yachty (on the single “Charlie”) further expanded her ever growing discography and showcases her depth and versatility beyond a genre.
What’s The Next Thing?
Coming off her debut Coachella performance, where she first premiered “One Thing,” Lola’s momentum is only accelerating. She was just nominated for an American Music Award for Social Song of the Year, received three Ivor Novello nominations, and was named a Future 25 artist by Rolling Stone.
With an upcoming supporting act for Billie Eilish in Paris, plus festival stops at Glastonbury and All Things Go, Lola is stepping confidently into her next era with “One Thing,” which sets the tone for her upcoming album, I’m Only F**king Myself, set to release on September 19th.
“One Thing” is now available on all streaming platforms, and stay tuned for Lola’s new chapter!
