LIMÓN LIMÓN CAPTURE THE MUNDANITIES OF A LIFE STUCK ON REPEAT IN LATEST GENUINELY UPBEAT SINGLE “ROLLER COASTER”

One of the admittedly guilty pleasures of nearly all music fans are those songs which, at first listen, sound like they’re about one thing before the lyrics suddenly shift into something else. Such is the case with West Coast duo Limón Limón and their latest track, “Roller Coaster,” which might be the most uptempo song about a potentially depressing topic in recent memory. That’s not to say that the track isn’t absolutely amazing — indeed, “Roller Coaster” is like if all of one’s favorite alt-rock bands, from Gorillaz and Weezer to Beck and 21 Pilots, had the musical equivalent of a baby. The song is immediately catchy and feels like the listener is actually on a roller coaster, what with its ups and downs. Yet for all its electronic elements, there’s something very grounded in its fundamentally rock sound, paired with the upbeat vocals, Latin-American-influenced guitar work and near-surgical precision of the arrangement. In all, “Roller Coaster” is incredibly catchy for being a fairly downtrodden song about the monotony of life — it’s a feel good song made by, and possibly for, people who definitely are not, as evidenced by its lyrics: “Strapped in / But I ain’t going nowhere / I wish that it was over / On this roller coaster / Up, down / We’re just getting older / But never moving forward / On this roller coaster.” Limón Limón have certainly captured lightning in a bottle, and reiterate about their latest single:

“‘Roller Coaster’ is a song about feeling lost and stuck in life’s monotony.
