“Space Cadet” is a simple, yet catchy, iconic hook that sprung into the mind of TreeHouse! frontman, Jeremy Anderson, and this hook evolved to explore the archetype of the space cadet as the protagonist, digging into deeper ponderings of our story’s hero. “Space Cadet” consumed Anderson’s thoughts as it jumped to the forefront of their new releases.
The singer describes himself as a “space cadet” having an out-of-body experience, hovering above the ground after consuming magic mushrooms.
He follows the sound, feels transcended and his crew reaches new heights.
Despite some moments of confusion, he remains in a state of psychedelic euphoria. We’ve all had those “Space Cadet” moments – whether it’s daydreaming, forgetting, or just having our heads in the clouds.
Even though it may seem embarrassing to find yourself in this state, there is a certain tranquility and a playful side to it, which TreeHouse! aims to celebrate with its own anthem.
After hearing this song, count how many times you’ll find yourself singing “I’m a Space Cadet” in all its humbling relevance.
The style and sound of “Space Cadet” is heavily inspired by the band, Sublime’s influence on Jeremy Anderson in his youth.
TreeHouse! the sound has always had a complementary vibe to Sublime, and this track is a clear homage to that influence. Some unique production elements of “Space Cadet” include dynamic saxophone lines, staccato orchestral hits, a moving fretless bass line, vocals breaking the 4th wall to speak to the listener, dynamic breaks, stops and accumulations as well as a flow that changes genre.
