The HU return with their third full-length album, HUN, out now via Better Noise Music.
Across 11 tracks, the Mongolian group continues developing its signature Hunnu Rock sound, combining traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing with heavy metal. HUN follows the band’s recent run with Iron Maiden in the UK and arrives alongside a new music video for “Horsemen.”
The HU Find the Human Side of HUN
HUN translates to “human” in the band’s native language, a title chosen to reflect the universal experiences at the center of the record. Originally titled Between the Heaven and Earth, the album eventually evolved into something The HU felt more closely represented human life and its connection to the world around it.
The band also used the album to experiment further with the relationship between its traditional instrumentation and heavier influences.
“In our third album, we tested many boundaries and used different techniques to perfect the combination of traditional instruments with heavy metal music genres,” Jaya said.
That experimentation stretches across tracks including “Warrior Chant,” “The Men,” “Echoes of My Father,” “Grey Hun” and “Universe.” HUN also includes “Lost Soul,” featuring Jonny Hawkins of NOTHING MORE, on its digital edition.
“Horsemen” Looks Back to Mongolian History
Alongside HUN, The HU released a music video for “Horsemen,” a track inspired by the Mongolian warriors who once traveled across large parts of the known world.
The band points specifically to the discipline, intelligence, courage and unity associated with those warriors, using their history as the foundation for the song rather than simply retelling it.
The release comes as The HU continue a busy year on the road. After completing a North American headline run, the band returned to the U.S. for dates supporting Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson before heading overseas for a UK and European tour with SKÁLD.
HUN is available digitally and on CD now, with vinyl variants and a box set arriving September 11.
