Rising R&B artist NOBY dropped a mesmerizing new single, “Let Me Drown” last month via Motown Records. The rising alternative artist shared this release on the heels of his last song, “Before.” Native to Alabama, NOBY has cultivated a powerful combination of influences from rock and the gospel he grew up with. As he gains a following, NOBY paves the way for his own, unique take on alternative R&B.

Vulnerable displays like what he did on ‘Before,’ shows that he’s been taking notes from the veterans before his time.”

The flurry of chimes that allows “Let Me Drown” to begin is a moment of instant satisfaction. The unique notes catch the ear and establish trust that what’s to follow contains as much sparkle. NOBY’s vocals are exactly that, a crystalline that carries his lyrics with a sweeping, regal nature. The loose drum beat gives his elegance the right edge, and NOBY cruises on that sweet spot for the entire track. He incorporates personal flare within every line of the verses, and the chorus captures a magical, rhythmic culmination of his witty specificities. He isn’t afraid to express desire and candor, and it seems impossible not to be confident when he is able to communicate with such sway and swagger.

NOBY has released two albums, The Truest (2020) and Space Bandit, Vol. I: Liftoff (2019). Listening years back on his discography, the same presence upholds. His recent releases showcase a matured level of intimacy, inviting the audience to connect.
