Today, singer-songwriter and producer Laura von Mari released her new single, “Forevermore.” The song is the title track from her forthcoming EP, which is due out in late September.
Written and produced entirely by von Mari, “Forevermore” is a retro-sounding pop hit featuring laid-back percussion and funky guitar rhythms. Its lyrics are littered with Y2K-style phrases, such as “What gives?” and “get right.”
Now it’s years gone by and you apologize
What gives?
I think it’s safe to say you’re dismissed
And try as you might
No you’ll never get right with me
So
Laura von Mari, “Forevermore”

“Forevermore” tells the story of how von Mari was let down and made to feel small by a role model she loved and trusted. After reflecting on the experience, she knew she owed it to herself to condemn them for betraying, hurting and belittling her when she was vulnerable.
I’ve had enough infantilizing
Of thinking you were right
And I was wrong
Now I’m done with prophesizing
I came around and realized that
I was idolizing a fool
All along

Speaking about the track, von Mari shared, “There’s something so damning and fateful about the word ‘Forevermore.’ I feel like it denotes a certain permanence I have in my heart about everything that ever matters to me. I can really hold a grudge but at the same time if I want something bad enough I’ll never give it up.”
