Born and raised in Louisville Kentucky, Jack Harlow always had eyes for shining a light on the city that made him. Heavily inspired by his influences, “I would hear my favorite rappers talk about where they were from in songs and I felt this urge to let the world know about us too” (Jack Harlow). Instead of simply playing up his hometown in a new single, the rapper made a conscious effort to highlight five Louisville-based organizations that empower and boost his community. The five organizations in question include:
The Center for Women and Families
And
With a quick summary, all the foundations are equally important, yet remarkably, after seeing Harlow’s post, Instagram decided to chime in and donate up to 50,000 dollars for “The Center for Women and Families”. In a society that is often indifferent, the work Jack is doing to shed light on this organization helps bring attention to sexual assault and the importance of self-education.
As of October 30th, 2021, the post has seen more than 797k likes, meaning if only ten percent of his audience researches more about sexual violence, at least 80,000 people will learn something new about the topic. With a fundraiser currently open, I would strongly encourage you to donate. I myself donated, so if you have the means, any bit would help. However, if you can not provide a financial contribution, contacting your local organizations to see what you can do, is a valuable action to take as well.
As of 1998, an estimated 17.7 million American women had been victims of attempted or completed rape

Needless to say, it’s awesome to see Harlow spreading awareness. Giving a platform for victims of sexual assault and educating yourself about these issues is a great step in the right direction.
