It’s Hard To Say Goodbye In Lain Roy’s ‘Harder’
Being in love isn’t as glamorous as media would set it out to be. While there are times that we might feel like we’re in a movie. For the most part, being in a relationship entails having patience, respect, forgiveness and compromise. Moreover, it’s a daily choice of committing to someone other than ourselves. As beautiful and transformative as that all sounds. There’s also a reality that it could be a thorny bush. One that could leave it’s victims hurt and wounded at every strike. Oh the horror!
These same complexities in love are present in The Voice Season 19 and American Idol Season 15 alum Lain Roy’s latest song entitled ‘Harder’. Released June 2nd in all major streaming platforms via Royal Records. ‘Harder’ is a Nashville pop track that talks about lovers parting ways. More than just the physical distance of moving away. As the tune progresses we see both of them drift emotionally as well. A sad sight indeed, we too get a sense that the other has moved on quite easily. Hence the gut wrenching lyrics “You cried your eyes out, I kept my head down. Started the car…”.
With a powerful voice mixed in with soothing instrumentals to calm the nerves. Lain Roy’s ‘Harder’ sets the perfect stage for anyone to unleash pent up frustrations about love and separation. Beyond the heartache though, it too opens our eyes to the fact that people move on in varied paces. Some take 6 months “Six months apart it’s bridge over water” to get there. Whilst others take longer than that or even have an indefinite timeline in picking up the broken pieces. Tsk tsk!
Does this speed mean the other loved less? Perhaps. But what’s for certain is that there’s no blame game going on here. Rather only an admittance that irreversible mistakes were done by both sides. Unfortunately leading for that promise of forever to fade away gently into the night. Now all there is left is this painful realization that keeps repeating “You took it hard, but it turns out I’m taking it harder.”.
