In honor of Mother’s Day, Iris Lune shares a touching single and video “Note to Self,” the third single off of her upcoming debut LP lovelosslove out June 5th. A letter to herself written one year after her mother’s passing, “Note to Self” is Iris Lune trying to figure out how to hold onto the person she was before her mom passing, finding room for that past self inside who she is now. The first half of the second verse is a literal translation of one of the love letters her mom wrote to her dad in their early 20s.

The song is accompanied with an equally emotional video, the director Julia Barrett-Michael offering a statement: “this piece would be a poem in reverence to maternal ancestry, depicted through three real maternal love stories: My grandmother and myself, our dear friend Kezia and her little lovely daughter Leighton, and Iris Lune’s and her late mother… though not featured in the film, who is then echoed in the guest appearance of Iris Lune’s wife and newborn son…Together, we created a piece that is a testament to both joy and grief,  birth and death, and of course, love and loss from the depths of our most authentically loving, full and broken hearts.”
