18-year-old iLY KURO maintains a mysterious online presence, but the Manchester-based artist is making quite the entrance onto the music scene by eliciting a unique emotional response in every one of his songs. His music speaks for itself, a truly genre-bending talent with plants of longevity and boundless soundscapes for years to come. Although he has only been making music seriously for about a year now, he transports listeners to another worth by the tone of his voice and vividly engaging lyrics. He has the potential and desire to top the charts in the realm of Post Malone while also shifting gears to other songs that can encompass your eardrums with melancholy truth and speaking to those who feel along, giving anyone going through a hard time a voice they can relate to.
A natural-born vocalist and writer, Kuro shares life experiences from the heart. He finds therapy in creating music and shares those creations’ intimate consumption with fans around the world.
His new single, “The Prettiest,” is a collaboration with Venezuelan producer Carze, who has worked with some of the biggest bubbling artists in the Spanish world such as Rojuu and Saramalacera. The process itself was seamless. Upon hearing the beat that Carze sent over, Kuro immediately knew what he wanted to record and got right to work. The result is an alt-pop smash, a truly feel-good record with crisp vocals floating over a harmonious summertime beat. Sparkly basslines back the gliding vocals and the result is pure magical energy.
I was able to ask Kuro about the song further, so continue reading below for a short interview that dives into the inspiration behind the track as well as his plans for the future.
I love the bubbly energy of the track. Why did you choose that sound and what inspirations do you draw from?
The sound came to me instantly from listening to the beat, I knew exactly how I wanted it to sound within minutes. The likes of Post Malone and Clever are definitely big inspirations for my music. I like to try to mix lots of different genres energies to each song I make; it comes so naturally due to my extremely varied taste in music. I go from listening to Jorja Smith to some crazy shit like Slipknot, including everything in between. I don’t feel like I could ever “find my style” in music, everything is my style.
The lyrics sound like a very wistful longing for attention/love from someone. What is the inspiration behind the song?
The inspiration behind the song is a dive into my personal life – the story of 2 lovers of 5 years splitting ways, but the way absence makes the heart grow fonder is exactly how it went, the love of my life, her song.
What do you hope listeners walk with after hearing your song?
I hope everyone who hears the song learns that no matter how long you wait, what’s meant to be will come to you, no matter how hard it is to let go, or how long you have to wait for your person. I hope many couples can bond through this piece of art because it has for me.
What are your plans after this track? Will you be releasing more singles? Is there a larger project coming?
My plans after this track are to take over the world; music videos are in the works, I have tons in my locker, and I’ll never stop working on my craft, my passion for 18 years. The foreseeable future is mine; it’ll be Kuro’s world.
Of course, there are more tracks to come! I have enough songs at the moment for a few albums, and I don’t even want to put out an album yet! Every song I have ready is a hit waiting to be recognized; record labels will be kicking themselves in years to come seeing what they missed out on, it’s only a matter of time! Currently focusing on this release, then the following one. I would love to put out an EP when the time’s right, for now, I’m focusing on my next few singles.
Is there anything else you’d like to share regarding the track or about yourself as an artist?
All my life, music to me has been the main thing keeping me going, whether it’s writing lyrics at a young age or finally producing songs at 18. It’s gotten me through most of my tough times, being able to put my thoughts & emotions into words & full songs is a dream come true. Artists such as xxxtentacion, Juice Wrld, or Post Malone and their music helped me and I want to give back by being that artist for others.
