I/O is a Virginia based singer, songwriter, and music producer. Growing up in a musical family, I/O was immersed in music from the very start, and consequently began creating music at a very young age. His love for music’s ability to transcend all boundaries and connect with people on a deeper level has driven him to write numerous heartfelt songs that impact his audience to their core.
“Empty Promises” is a single from his new EP, out last week, that explores heartache and reconciliation with a past relationship. A soothing guitar-backed instrumental glides underneath breathy vocalizations and drifting synths. Heartfelt vocals pour over the bittersweet soundscape. Though pleasant in sound, the song carries a heartbreaking message – realizing that words spoken about a permanent future were nothing more than empty promises.
As I/O recounts the promises that were made, he also explores his emotions that have resulted from this fragile state he’s been put in. With sadness in his words, he realizes that he’s numb to love and wonders if he was ever enough. A sweeping soundscape takes over as the song reaches a close with layered vocals further developing the emotional nature of the lyrics. Listeners are able to witness the struggle of reconciliation between longing for a future with one’s ex and coming to terms with the fact that the relationship has ended.
