Groove on Down to Groovin High Record Store in Chicago

Not many stores can say they are literally overflowing with items to offer. But if you told me that Groovin High Inc. could give me pretty much anything I was looking for, I’d believe you. Its bountiful stock is honestly one of the most impressive I’ve seen in Chicago yet. It boasts many, many records, along with goods like CDs, DVDs, videos, and more.

I set out into the city to enjoy a warm summer day with some local shopping. A brisk walk off the L’s Belmont stop, and I arrived at 1047 W Belmont Ave in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. It’s another community staple that’s been around for ages serving  music and movie lovers alike. I stepped in and was welcomed with a friendly smile, along with the sound of gorgeous classical music blasting out of speakers somewhere. It wasn’t the music choice I would have expected, but I sure did appreciate it as a surprisingly spectacular soundtrack to flip through the bins. With new and used finds alike — from classics to the most recent hits — there’s something for everyone in the plethora of quality records within the store’s vast, seemingly endless collection.

The storefront has been around for years, and for good reason. It’s filled to the brim with bins upon bins and shelves upon shelves of stock. I didn’t think I needed a VHS tape, but Groovin High had me wanting to indulge in the nostalgia of a good ‘ol fashioned movie night. The fact that it also promises fair prices means this shop packs a punch. There were clearance bins with sales as high as 50% off, along with some killer bargains on CDs — a buck apiece or 10 for $5. Don’t mind if I do.

If the piles and piles of products visible in the back somehow don’t satisfy your shopping urges, you could also check out Reckless Records, which is mere blocks away. It goes to show why record lovers thrive in Chicago.

Hours can vary, so if you’re set on stopping by (as you should be), consider calling ahead. It is so worth it. You can call 773-GROOVIN, or even check out its Facebook here
