The first round of Glassetonbury, Volume 3 is in the books, and our field of competitors has been Thanos-snapped in half. Sixteen songs remain as we draw one week closer to crowning our next Glassetonbury champion.
Our winner will receive a featured interview on Glasse Factory, a live set/fan Q&A hosted on Glasse Factory’s Instagram Live, a permanent spot in our Glassetonbury: Hall of Fame playlist, and more.

“HOT” – Bachi vs. “Imposter” – Benjamin Silver
Bouncy and braggadocious, this fun single from Bachi is currently the Tallahassee rapper’s most popular track on Spotify. “HOT” features witty wordplay and a tight delivery over a grimy, bass-heavy beat. It defeated “Stuck” by Lance Tingey last round. With “Imposter,” Benjamin Silver strikes a fusion of Father John Misty, Death Cab For Cutie, and Guster that lands well. It’s the longest track in the bracket at just over six minutes, but this chamber folk-pop song is able to stay interesting throughout with refreshing chord progressions and reflective lyrics. It defeated “Wayward Home” by Clara Strauch last round.

“Sleeping In On Sundays” – Dante Palminteri vs. “Call Me Back” – Maripo$a
“Sleeping In On Sundays” is a summery, fun indie-pop song from Dante Palminteri that fans of John Mayer or Easy Life would enjoy. It features jazz-influenced guitars, a supremely catchy hook, and a grooving bass line. It defeated “Lie To Me” by Luna Byrd last round. Meanwhile, “Call Me Back” is the second single of 2020 for LA-based pop artist Maripo$a. It’s a cool, polished track with R&B and funk sensibilities that defeated “All I Do” by eve in the Round of 32.

“Self Love” – Emily Vu vs. “Info Nympho” – Sam Soto
Emily Vu‘s “Self-Love” will snag your attention from the second its pulsing bass line starts the song. A pop/R&B track from the Garden Grove, California artist, its lyrics reflect on the importance of prioritizing self-love. It defeated “Northern California” by Limon Limon last round. Meanwhile, Sam Soto‘s “Info Nympho” is one of two tracks the Nashville artist released on October 20th, and it features heavily artistic, auto-tuned vocals that almost feel Kanye-influenced in some spots. The songs are his third and fourth of 2020 after debuting earlier this year with “Cherry Coke Soda.” “Info Nympho” defeated “Remember It All” by Jonny Glenn last round.

“Smoke” – Simen Mitlid vs. “Turn Around” – Juke of June
Simen Mitlid‘s lo-fi acoustic ballad “Smoke” is the ninth track from his most recent album “Birds; or, Stories From Charlie B’s Travels From Grønland to the Sun, and Back Again.” The Oslo, Norway-based singer-songwriter crafted a sensitive, pretty song that’s sure to relax the listener. It defeated “Like Wild Horses” by Linebug last round. Meanwhile, “Turn Around” is the latest single from Nashville’s Juke of June and brings one of the most powerful vocal performances in the entire tournament from singer Jackson Hahn. Borrowing elements from 70s rock, Americana, and folk-country, this song feels both massive and homey at the same time. It defeated “The One” by Richard last round.

“Remember” – Elina vs. “Barry” – Spec Kay
“Remember,” Elina‘s newest acoustic ballad, grabbed a hold of my ear from the beginning with its enchanting vocal melody in the verses. She’s able to hold your attention for the rest of the song with her touching delivery. Elina maintains a whispery-but-confident tone throughout the song that comes out both beautiful and controlled. She defeated “LILO” by Superheart last round. Meanwhile, New Jersey’s Spec Kay comes with a tight flow and a jazzy beat with his latest hip-hop single “Barry.” Saxophone riffs dominate the instrumental as he puts out a dynamic performance. The song defeated “late night text” by Madelline last round.

“City of Stars” – Kaso vs. “Karma” – Mike Taveira
Kaso‘s “City of Stars” is one of the funkier songs in our bracket, bolstered by a filthy, rock-solid rhythm section performance. The German-born, LA-based artist combines funk, jazz, R&B, rock, and a dose of hip-hop sensibilities to create a standout debut single. It defeated “Avalanche” by Simon Sode last round. Meanwhile, “Karma” is a guitar-heavy pop track from singer-songwriter Mike Taveira with driving verses that build to a warm, satisfying hook full of energy. It defeated “Heart-Shaped Box” as covered by tiny.blips last round.

“Blue Jean Girl” – Brian Elliot vs. “Friends” – Eric Vattima x MNERVA
Brian Elliot‘s “Blue Jean Girl” lands in the quirky-cool vein of indie rock that reminds me of artists like Franz Ferdinand and Arcade Fire, and it makes for a positive introduction to the East Nashville artist. It defeated “Lost My Love” by Maisie May last round. Eric Vattima and MNERVA also represent Nashville, bringing a grimy brand of hip-hop to the table with “Friends.” It takes a darker tone, and its painfully-relevant lyrics address the struggles of trying to enter the music industry in the current state of the world. It defeated “Feel Good” by Super Duper and Bre Kennedy last round.

“Kerosene” – Rett Madison vs. “Rodeo” – Teller & The Tale
“Kerosene” is yet another demonstration of vocal prowess by rising Los Angeles indie-folk artist Rett Madison, who floored us earlier this year with her song “Shame Is A River.” Comparatively, this one moves a little quicker and doesn’t waste any time building to an explosive hook. It defeated “Body Body: From My Room” by Victoria Victoria last round. Meanwhile, “Rodeo” by Toronto’s Teller & The Tale fully delivers on his promise of “heartfelt ballads and soulful anthems sung from the depths of an outlaw’s spirit.” It deploys huge, full vocals over an Americana backdrop that would definitely attract fans of Zac Brown Band or Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors. It defeated “Just Breathe” by MIRI last round.
