Gatlin Shares Solemn New Single, “Still Not Me”
On Friday, January 20th, rising Nashville-based indie artist, Gatlin, shares her latest release, “Still Not Me,” paired with a personal music video. With a lilting vocal performance that resonates in the bones, the release offers her best to date its emotional sense of yearning and personal tones.
Gatlin (full name Gatlin Thornton) was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. In 2017, she relocated to Nashville to study Religion & The Arts and Songwriting at Belmont University. But after a couple of years she withdrew from college to pursue songwriting full-time. The 24-year-old artist combines instinctual humanity with daring vulnerability to craft musical moments of meaning and melody. Consistent through her range, Gatlin’s music brims with confessional lyricism and raw storytelling. Her songs blend a vast internal world of feelings and thoughts with a rich external world of people and places – bringing listeners to the girl who stands at the intersection, Gatlin.
Arriving on the scene in 2020 with her EP Sugarcoated, Gatlin made an impression on listeners and the press with her profound lyricism. Gatlin thrives on telling intricate stories born of small moments, and making the ordinary seem grand. “Still Not Me” follows a string of successful releases, most recently the EP To Remind Me of Home, which featured the hit single “What If I Love You,” helping Gatlin achieve a milestone 1.6 million listeners on the platform.
Touching on the “farewell kiss” directed to a love gone, the new track and music video touches on the vulnerability of that process emotionally, digging its heels in the black sand beaches and allowing the cold sea air grace the skin as a sense of peace fills the bones. While it pulls the audience in to experience that process with the artist, it too, adds an even more personal touch with a vlog-styled music video. Watch below:
