Òlah Bliss is nothing if not authentic. She’s not one to skirt away from her vulnerabilities. So when she reached a low point, she wrote the spiritual single “Holy.” With an alt-pop sound, she divulges her darkest experiences battling with her own brain – and how she coped when she felt like she had no one to turn to.
Some friends, aware of my addictive tendencies, adopted an unusual approach to my despondency. Instead of offering support, they fueled my self-destructive behavior by dragging me to parties and events, exacerbating my struggles. It reached a point where I felt compelled to engage in a heartfelt conversation with God. Life seemed devoid of meaning … I needed to pull my life together, guided by the assurance that God’s purpose for me transcends the challenges I face.
~ Òlah Bliss
Òlah Bliss prides herself on sharing self-exploration and inviting listeners to do the same. This track features an adult contemporary influence, ballad-heavy in the best way. Her vocals are strong, a warm rasp building to a belt. With an ethereal yet mysterious soundscape, the song is a sanctuary for those looking for an emotional experience.
The artist’s style is fresh with a touch of alt-pop edginess, though the lyrics go much deeper into explorations of pain and religion. “Holy” progresses into worship with almost angelic harmonies. Òlah Bliss focuses on discussions of faith, a contrast to the previous proclamations of suffering.
Cut me into pieces and then you’ll understand it
~ “Holy”
Don’t say I have no reasons to leave it all behind me
You see me hurt, you see me cry,
I look like I’ve been to hell and back
How can I feel Holy?
