Former Hero, the UK-based producer and guitarist, has dropped another single from his upcoming debut album, Footpaths. In the artist’s own words, this song is about “a pretty bleak moment when I was drinking very heavily … My friends were worried about me, but I didn’t want to talk about it. Foxgloves are a super beautiful, almost unreal-looking flower that also happens to be extremely poisonous, so it felt like a good nonsense word to use as a distraction from the actual issues I was facing at the time.” What came from this moment is a song that is, once again, a great example of “melancholic dance music.”
With a pounding four-on-the-floor and synths that are reminiscent of Avicii, Former Hero works in the simple lyrics that describe the situation he wanted to revisit: “We talk about foxgloves planted in a row / all the while I’ll ignore the problem / I’ll get so drunk I can barely make it home / I need your help, but I can’t ask, so…” Former Hero distills such a complex and intricate moment down to the bare minimum for the lyrics, and he has created something that harkens back to the early 2010’s EDM scene.
“Foxgloves” is out now, while Footpaths will be released on August 27th. Definitely keep Former Hero on your radar, and give “Foxgloves” a listen!
