Exclusive Zoom Interview with Up-and-Coming Duo, Nox Holloway, Who Are Committed to Creating an Experience for Listeners

Nashville-based alt-pop duo Nox Holloway (Bryce Vanhook, Parker Mathews) became fast friends when they met on their first day at Clemson University, but it wasn’t until 2020 that they officially began collaborating under their current name. Swirling Vanhook’s love of free-flowing hip-hop with Mathews’s expansive musicality and EDM-rich pop production style, Nox Holloway has already made quite a name for themselves as they search to make deeper connections through their cinematic and varied style.

The duo achieved massive success with their 2021 debut album If Only The World Didn’t Spin So Much, which was written during the pandemic through texts, Zoom calls, and iPhone voice memos. Vanhook and Mathews understand each other’s strengths and do their best to bring them out in one another. Mathews praises Bryce for being the best reactionary writer he’s been around, one that works solely off of gut feeling – consider him the heart of the duo. But a heart cannot be without a head, and Vanhook appreciates the commitment that Mathews shows to find the simplicity in what they are doing.

Most importantly for the duo, the songs they release are all part of a larger through-line, inviting listeners to dig deeper into the broader story they’re trying to create – not just through their music, but through all sorts of complementary media, like music videos. You can learn more about their creative process in our exclusive Zoom interview below.

Nox Holloway is currently on tour with The Unlikely Candidates and hitting major cities like Brooklyn, St. Louis, Atlanta, and New Orleans. Be sure to check out where they might be stopping near you on their website! If you’re not able to catch them on tour, be sure to check out their music videos, like “Orbit” below, to get a taste of what these guys are bringing to the alt-pop table.
