Exclusive Premiere: Colyer takes listeners into his “Weird World” of shoegaze
Airy, dreamy, enigmatic: “Weird World” is one of the compelling new singles off of shoegaze artist Colyer’s upcoming debut album. The song is a slow engulfment into a tectonic world of life’s greatest dramas, a feeling built on his airy baritone guitars, each building upon the other in distinct melodic layers, and a dark soundscape of droning synth pads creating something of an ode to the dream space.
Colyer’s lyrics are coated in dark colors and stark imagery, drawing listeners in with his deep exploration of sensitive topics like thought, love, and desire. The introspective track is, as he describes it, a “lonesome drive through the mind of a cauterized artist in the depths of Hollywood, CA. The visceral and immersive soundtrack to a weird, isolated world.” Colyer, reeling you into a world of his own creation.

Colyer is the stage name for LA-based musician and multi-instrumentalist Steven Colyer. Colyer is making his debut with an entirely self-produced record coming later this year, a project fusing sounds from ’60s soul and shoegaze from the ’90s. He says it’s the vulnerability of his genreless musical productions that he feels draw listeners in.
