Ellie Moon Releases Fiery Take on Social Media in “Don’t Date Me”

Liverpool-born and Madrid-bred indie-pop musician, Ellie Moon, returned to the music scene with a unique twist on social media and its impact on our world as we know it. Newest single, “Don’t Date Me,” follows up on rave reviews from her debut EP, Moonisms, in June of 2020.

The world is bound to re-fall back in love with her quirky melodies, razor-sharp humor and lyrics, which call upon the everyday and mundane to create her own unique brand of hits. With a strong visual campaign to coincide with each single and upcoming EP, Bad TV, Ellie’s unique approach to bringing her music to life is something that is a rarity in the music industry. Ellie may look like your bubblegum-girl next door, but with her comes an attitude not to be messed with. Her sound is a glorious mix of groovy bass lines, sassy sounds of Casio and infectious pop hooks. This powerfully upbeat, accessible pop sound is enhanced by Ellie’s self-deprecating lyrics, holding together each song with a charm that’s impossible to resist.

The music video complimenting the release of “Don’t Date Me” is bathed in red hues, dramatic and moody styling, and an intense wave of emotions that surround a dinner table of candies, sweets, and champagne. The video takes a darker turn as shots of Moon show an unhinged edge with streaks of mascara running down the cheeks, and the dinner scene crumbles in her hands, transforming into something much more like a crime scene.

About the newest single, Ellie said:

The inspiration behind the lyrics of this track is what really drove us to write ‘Don’t Date Me’. I had gone through a string of these weird ‘situationships’ and it left me feeling like nobody would ever want to go out with me ever again! So instead of feeling sorry for myself, in true Ellie Moon fashion, I decided to write a song and turn my feelings completely the other way. I imagined the lyrics as a series of self aware text messages I was sending to a so-called ex acknowledging and highlighting how rubbish it is to date someone indifferent and selfish when it comes to love.
