ED SHEERAN HAS AN EXCITING NEW COLLAB WITH POKÉMON

Ed Sheeran, I choose you (throw poké ball)! Ed Sheeran is a Pokémon mega-fan whose dream just came true after a collaboration to release a song and music video. “Celestial” is the new exciting song that will be featured on highly anticipated video games like Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. These games will launch on November 18 exclusively on Nintendo Switch consoles. Thankfully, fans don’t have to wait to listen to the new track. The song is full of imagination, light hearted spirit with comforting vibes. Ed has always been an incredible songwriter and teaming up with a major franchise didn’t alter the way he creates music.

“I’ve played Pokémon since I was in primary school. Me and my brother used to have different versions of the games and would trade Pokémon together ‘til we each completed our Pokédex. I loved the cards but the games are what I lost myself in. I loved the whole world they created; it kept me distracted if there was negative stuff happening in my life/school that I wanted to avoid.”

The inspiration for the music video was based on Ed’s fascination with the franchise and features some of his favorite Pokémon like Pikachu, Snorlax, Squirtle, Machamp and several others. Following Ed through his typical day with some Pokémon friends popping in along the way to help him. The animation is so good and brings such nostalgia as you watch it. It shows Ed has a cartoon Ash running through Pokémon world collecting Pokémon. The art direction of the film was created by Yu Nagaba who drew inspiration from drawings that Ed made as a child.

“It was a world I could escape into and I’ve played it ever since. Even though I’m 31 now, I still own the same Game Boy Color and play Pokémon Yellow or Silver on planes and trains when I’m on tour. It’s such an honour to add a song into a Pokémon game and shoot a nostalgic video too. I hope you guys enjoy the song and video – it was a blast to film!’

Kenji Okubo, the president of the Pokémon Company International, was so thrilled to work with Ed as the company were big fans of his. Ed was a joy to work alongside and his love for the franchises really shined throughout the creation process. Kenji boasts that Yuichi Kodama did fantastic job of capturing a feeling of pure childlike joy and sense of adventure within the video too. Both Yuichi and Ed’s genuine adoration for Pokémon makes this a truly special collaboration.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet launch worldwide November 18, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. For more information, click here!
