Restlessness is an all-too-known feeling for some of us and the feelings following a lost lover are another whole level of relatability. When you mix all of those together, you get to a point where you’re “Losing Sleep,” which happens to be an aptly titled recently released collaboration between DVBBS and Powfu. The single is an experimental fusion of alt-punk and electronic elements with heartfelt lyrics full of lament.

Few producers have risen to the top in the electronic music scene as quickly as DVBBS, who captured the industry’s attention with hits like “Tsunami,” “IDWK,” and “Not Going Home” and never let it go. The Canadian brothers Alex and Christopher have been continuously cultivating their sound since their debut in 2012 and have racked up an impressive display of collaborations with renowned names from diverse musical backgrounds. From hip-hop superstar Juicy J to the NERVO twins, DVBBS continues to prove there’s nothing they can’t accomplish. The brothers have played everywhere from Lollapalooza to Tomorrowland, though they’ve been busy in the studio during the global pandemic. As DVBBS prepares for the release of their forthcoming album, SLEEP, they have teamed up with alternative sensation Powfu for this new release. Powfu has been riding the wave of his TikTok popularity from “death bed (coffee for your head)” song, which got him signed to Columbia Records and just surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify alone.

Originally written as an acoustic track by Powfu and then taken to the next level by DVBBS, “Losing Sleep” is a track that’s guaranteed to tug on listeners’ heartstrings. Opening with mellow instrumental melodies, Powfu’s heartfelt vocals shine through in a tone that captures the feelings of insomnia and pining. Despite the weary and heartbroken lyrics, the track picks up more of a dance beat with soft basslines as the chorus passes through. The sorrowful lyrics cover all the usual feelings of heartbreak – reliving past memories, longing for a return to before, wishing you could forget but not wanting to. This collaboration is full of emotion, but with a fun twist in the soundscape.
