Declaring himself a mastery of his craft, Donn Chii released his self-produced single, “Senseii,” last month alongside his Chii-Sides EP. Consisting of two previously unreleased singles and two acoustic re-releases, including “Kool Story Bro,” Chii-Sides showcases the Atlanta-based hip-hop artist’s diversity in sound as he spreads his everlasting message of positivity.

Originally from Detroit, Donn Chii grew up influenced by rap and hip-hop culture, but picked up bass guitar at 14 and became heavily involved in rock bands. For years, he played in rock/metal/punk bands, studied music in college, toured, and slowly crafted his craft. Taking all of his musical influences, he made the decision to go solo, now representing positivity and aims to bring good energy (or chi) to his fans. Also influenced by Lil Uzi Vert, Post Malone, and Big Sean, Donn Chii continues to also pull from his rock backgrounds, which is evident in his current tracks.

“Senseii” is the leading track for Chii-Sides and is a pronounced introduction to the artist who is Donn Chii. A self-confident and self-assured artist, Donn Chii proudly sets the tone for how he wants to be seen by artists, listeners, and anyone else who may come across his work. With Eastern Asian influences in the backing track, there’s a sonic hook that commands immediate attention. That hook is further enhanced by an insanely smooth flow supporting witty lyrics and a persistent rhythm. Incorporating the idea of “chi” into his lyrics, Donn Chii stays true to his vision of putting good energy at the forefront of everything he does.
