Dolly Parton’s “World On Fire” is a Blazing Call to Action

Dolly Parton does it all. The singer-songwriter is iconic, with contributions to music, acting, philanthropy, business, and more. She’s most known for her country music, but Parton is now exploring a new genre: rock.

Parton, 77, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, setting the stage for her to explore her new sound. Her first-ever rock-influenced, 30-track album Rockstar will take the world by storm November 17.  But in the meantime, her single “World On Fire” is rocking fans’ worlds.

At the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards, Parton took to the stage to perform her new song — with her signature flair, of course. Parton is an entertainer to her very core and does not disappoint with the dramatics. Her flowing dress, adorned with a world map, covered the whole stage, only to be torn off to reveal the rest of Parton’s sparkly black outfit. With flames blazing in the background, a troupe of backup dancers carried out stirring choreography while Parton sang her heart out — a masterclass in storytelling.

The lyrics fervently describe the struggling state of the world and the desperate need for change. Parton ruefully sings about greedy politicians and straying from the light to a strong beat with a strong message.

Liar, liar the world’s on fire

Whatcha gonna do when it all burns down

Fire, fire burning higher

Still got time to turn it all around

~ “World On Fire”

But Parton seems to think society can rise from the ashes. The track takes a hopeful turn, and its moving beat and electric guitar strums serve as a call to action, making “World On Fire” the perfect soundtrack and fight song to make a difference.

Oh, can we rise above

Can’t we show some love

Do we just give up

Or make a change

~ “World On Fire”

Parton’s hot new hit “World On Fire,” paired with anticipation for Rockstar, have loyal fans dying to know what the megastar has in store. So check her website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates while you eagerly await the album drop.
