DISASTER FANTASY DEBUT AS PURVEYORS OF SYNTHS AND DEEP EMOTIONS ON IMPRESSIVE SINGLE “VOWS”

Northwest natives Ryann Donnelly and Byron Kalet have come together from their separate music projects to form the New Age and electro-pop inspired Disaster Fantasy, with the unveiling of their debut single, “Vows.” A mix of female power a la 1970’s Stevie Nicks and 1980’s New Wave bands like Flock of Seagulls, “Vows” is a pulsing, synth-driven track with a 1990’s attitude and a sound that could fit comfortably anywhere between now and the dawn of time. With its melancholic lyrics of, “I know you know better / You’re better off alone / You told me it’s too easy / You’re better off alone,” it’s not hard to see why Donnelly found the process of writing the track cathartic:

“When I was writing ‘Vows,’ I thought a lot about various modes of romantic desire and defeat; and the impossibility of being with someone who prioritizes the art above all else.”
