CXCX Chu Chu is an independent artist. Her latest album, “CYBER GRL” intros with a provocative and aggressive flow, reminiscent of the Higher Brothers, her charm truly prevails and shines through on the sophomore track “Cancun”. On this track, CXCX Chu Chu could’ve easily been mistaken for the beloved 070 Shake. “Cancun” is easily my favorite track from the project and has been kept on repeat.
The albums energy level alternates throughout the following tracks but remaining on theme with the demonstrated attitude.
CXCX Chu Chu is a rapper of Chinese and European descent. After living in China and Denmark, she moved to the Netherlands, and found her passion for music. While in Canada as an exchange student, she became active in the local Chinese-Canadian rap scene in Vancouver, and turned into somewhat of a local superhero – many would know her as the ‘dragon princess’. At this early point, Chu Chu had only been rapping for about a year.
Proving her worth as a Rap of China Season 3 finalist (in Toronto), she went on to perform more shows in Canada, at Vancouver Street Fashion Week, Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) after party, and Fortune Sound Club among other places. Having found community and local supporters – among which are Grizzy Wynter, Pink City and Teon Gibbs of 100Collective, Chu Chu made plans to stay in Canada indefinitely. But when the pandemic hit in early 2020, she uprooted her life and moved back to Denmark.
Currently, she is making a name for herself on the Danish music scene, and has been chosen by Danish media platform Karrierekanonen as a recommended artist. She has a magazine interview, radio time as well as a physical show in the pipeline. It’s very interesting how the rest of the year will shape up for the young artist, who recently turned 24.
