CONOR CASSIDY SHINES AS A BEACON OF BITTERSWEET AND NOSTALGIC MUSIC ON LATEST GENRE-DEFYING SINGLE “MAGNOLIA LANE”
Conor Cassidy may not yet be a household name in the music world, but it’s hard to imagine that his unique sound and powerful lyrics won’t soon have him known worldwide alongside similar acts like Bruce Springsteen and Ed Sheeran. With his newest single, “Magnolia Lane,” Cassidy proves that sometimes one just needs an Americana-sounding guitar, a solid drum beat and emotive vocals to craft a solid song. Truthfully, “Magnolia Lane” defies genre conventions with its country-rock-meets-alt-pop style — but that just adds to its charm, which grabs listeners by the ears immediately out the gate with its upbeat energy. The soaring chorus is chock full of little details about the place the protagonist lived long ago, making it feel like a fully-realized location — and leading to the bittersweet feelings throughout much of the song. Like a male version of Jade Bird, Cassidy knows just how to emote vocally and craft a catchy song that can also pull at one’s heartstrings and have them beg for more. As Cassidy himself says about the song:
“‘Magnolia Lane’ is about journeying through the second half of life watching loved ones slip away and knowing that your day is soon to come. The character in the song deals with the thoughts and feelings that come with growing old and time running out. He’s reminiscing on years long gone. All the while finding solace in returning to ‘Magnolia Lane’ where the ghosts of his past still reside.”
