Striking the perfectly melodious balance between vintage sounds and modern-day sophistication, singer/songwriter Carli Brill revitalizes love songs with current lyrics and pop sentiments in her new single, “Concrete Jungle.” Balancing the dream-pop soundscape with her silky vocals, Carli treats listeners to an enchanting look at love found in today’s cityscapes and makes a track that fits perfectly for a post-dinner dance.
Carli Brill crafts charming, intricate retro-pop that blends the warmth of 60s-era radio hits with sleek and modern sophistication. With honey-smooth vocals and a knack for complex rhythmic shifts, she has a natural gift for musical storytelling, sharing her distinctive worldview through introspective lyrics inspired by everything from childhood experience to current relationship woes, saying that “I make music because I can’t imagine not making music.”
Born and raised in Southern California, Carli grew up dabbling in guitar, piano, voice, and flute, inspired by 50s and 60s acts (The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and The Papas, Simon and Garfunkel) whose work spanned a wide spectrum of styles. After self-producing a Christmas album in 2016, her interest in a music career was piqued; she won a nationwide contest in 2018, judged by Jessie J, to record tracks at LA’s Capitol Records. In 2019, she released her debut self-titled EP, Sonora, then moved to Nashville to pursue her career in music full-time. Now in 2022, Carli plans to release three new singles, showing her evolution as an artist and songwriter by experimenting with shifting rhythms and vintage tones in strikingly original arrangements. Recorded in Nashville and produced by Brendan St. Gelais, this new work showcases Carli’s ability to fuse internal and external, past and present, into uniquely compelling music.
Drawing on the influences which have shaped her artistry, Carli creates a soundscape rich with nostalgia, a nod to her deep love for 60s music. Warm vintage instrumental melodies swirl behind her vibrant vocals, which call to mind the soulful vocalists of her favorite eras. With a sultriness underpinning her distinct tones and love-lined lyrics, Carli draws listeners into what feels like an intimate serenade. The delicate lyrics explore what falling in love feels like, particularly in a city like New York City, filled with its high-rise buildings and bustling transportation. About halfway through the song, there is a notable addition to the production with a greater drum and bass string presence and girl group vocals that flutter in a way similar to the butterflies that may be in your stomach when you hear this track and recall a love that you may have found in a “Concrete Jungle.”
