Each spring, thousands of music enthusiasts flock to Indio, California to experience the state’s largest music festival of the year: Coachella. With dozens of big-name musicians and celebrity-filled audiences, the double weekend event has grown into a cultural phenomenon since its debut in 1999. But this year, there’s more than just blockbuster artists to talk about. According to Billboard, more than half of the 80,000+ Coachella attendees used a payment plan to finance their General Admission tickets.
It’s no secret that attending the infamous desert festival doesn’t come cheap. A 3-day weekend GA ticket now starts at $649, wild numbers compared to a $499 pass in 2024, or $429 in pre-pandemic 2019. In fact, it’s nearly double the cost of a $375 price tag from 2015.
The solution? Split the cost!
For many avid concert-goers, those inflated prices have them turning to more affordable options. Using a payment plan lets them experience the beauty of live music without completely breaking the bank. Coachella payment plans, which have been around for years, give fans the option to secure their ticket for just $49.99 upfront. After that, $41 monthly installments are issued until the remainder is paid off. No interest added.
“Payment plans make me feel like I’m paying less 😌,” one Instagram user commented under a post by @djloversclub.
“It’s the Klarna AfterPay influencer extravaganza event of the year™️! 🤑✨🤩” another joked, referencing some popular “Buy Now, Pay Later” providers.
It’s quite the economic alternative for the predominantly Gen Z crowd eager to see powerhouses like Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone and Charli xcx grace this year’s stages. And with the added costs of transportation, lodging and $25 sparkly Caesar salads, these arrangements also help cultivate a more financially diverse Coachella audience. Even beyond the music, attendees can explore unique art studios, vintage shopping booths, local brewing stands, stylish self-care stations and more.
Ultimately, attending the infamous Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival can be a priceless experience. As they say, “Money comes and goes. Time just goes!”
