CHARLI XCX ‘CRASH’ THE NEW ALBUM OUT NOW

The word crash is one of those words that have a double purpose. It’s a description for the act i.e. A meteor just crashed in my backyard. Not only that, but it could also act as the sound effect for that very action i.e., Crash! Goes the boulder as it slams on my coffee cup. Ridiculous examples aside, crash is part of the word group called onomatopoeia. Wherein a word, phonetically imitates, resembles the exact sound it describes. Other words in this playful bunch are the twins slap and clap, wherein we could see the later in action via Charli XCX’s hit “Boom Clap” i.e., “Boom clap, the sound of my heart. The beat goes on and on and on and..”.

Before you run up for the hills because of this sheer cheesiness, hold your horses! You’ve got to hear this out because English Pop Princess Charli XCX got something up her sleeve. Just like DC universe’s Zatanna, she’s got something to mesmerize us all and get us into that dancing trance. This weapon of mass enjoyment comes in the form of her new album “Crash” which came out March 18th through Atlantic Records.

This banger of a record boasts of powerful tracks sure to give everyone a blasting time. The list is as follows: “Crash”, “New Shapes” (feat. Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek), “Good Ones”, “Constant Repeat”, “Beg For You” (feat. Rina Sawayama), “Move Me”, “Baby”, “Lightning”, “Every Rule”, “Yuck”, “Used To Know Me”, and “Twice”. That’s 12 for those keeping score. Ding ding ding!

Digging deeper, “Crash” is a noteworthy experience because it lives up to its name giving you that crashing feeling. Not in a bad way of course, but in that feel good manner. Running at exactly 33 minutes and 51 seconds, this 12 pack comes in hard and fast as if a race car speeding through the freeway. No place for neutral here, it blazes through leaving us exhilarated. Whew! Water break! Water break!

Car comparisons aside, Charli XCX’s new offering is a perfect cruising companion. It’s energetic tone and alluring lyrics provides that dreamy backdrop suited to liven up any drive whether alone or with a group. It gives any vehicle wings, and its occupants a wide smile on their faces. A sense of freedom and liberation necessary in times like this. As in her song “Crash”, she explicitly says “I’m about to crash into the water. Gonna take you with me.”. Yes please! Because this feels too good and oh so euphoric.
