On December 17th, British band Bonfire Tide released their new single, “Elskan.” Named after “the Icelandic word for ‘darling,’” the track is “a story of ascending from a low point, building a love with someone that towers over your own failures.” The instrumental is a sweeping cinematic soundscape, and the lyrics are intensely personal.
The hook of the song, “It’s enough to be loved,” speaks to the power of love on an individual level. For some people, finding interpersonal love and romance brings out the best in them and allows them to get rid of their emotional baggage. “Elskan” is a stunning ode to that strength people find in love.
Of course, this track borrows heavily from Bon Iver, but that’s ok. Bonfire Tide have effectively created an indie power ballad, and the instrumental is gorgeous. The vocal performances are reminiscent of both Bon Iver and Whitney, complimenting the instrumental in such a beautiful way that they could be singing “It’s Okay To Leave A Dog In A Hot Car” and it would be just as powerful.
Obviously that’s just hyperbole and you should never leave a dog in a hot car, but you should check out “Elskan” below and let us know what you think! Bonfire Tide have put out something truly special.
