Showcasing bitbird‘s love for all music, the imprint has released the fifth volume of their Gouldian Finch compilation album, available now for streaming on all platforms. Focusing on art bass music which is a boundary-less genre that is used to describe expression-driven music meant to evoke an emotional response, the compilation is a beautifully vast collection of music that hits deep within the soul and expresses emotions not always able to be spoken. Featuring a monumental 21 tracks from 29 artists including Wavedash, Ookay, Pauline Herr and many more, Gouldian Finch 5 is the first time that bitbird defines the compilation series as art bass, which is comprised of music that releases art from the creative constraints of existing genres.

Speaking on Gouldian Finch 5 and its goal, bitbird explained art bass and separating the compilation album and the imprint from the future bass label, saying,

Art bass is not a formula or tied to specific rules; It’s more like a vision, a constant yearning to create something unique and bring something new to the electronic music scene. We believe most artists on bitbird are driven by this urge to express themselves in their own unique way, no matter what. Back in the days when we started releasing melodic bass music on bitbird, the sound was often labeled as ‘future bass.’ We always thought ‘future’ implied forward thinking sounds. We saw this new and exciting movement as the future of bass music; an ever-evolving, innovative, and boundary-pushing approach. However, over time, the genre grew stricter borders and kind of got stuck. It became a very specific (commercialized) formula, which is not what we personally had in mind. This is why we created the term art bass.

Founded by San Holo and Thorwald van den Akker, bitbird has always sought to be a forward-thinking space that allows for the expression of artists’ creativity. With a wide variety of artists releasing on the label, Gouldian Finch as a whole and bitbird have sought to give artists creative freedom and promote diverse bodies of work. Gouldian Finch 5 is accompanied by the release of bitbird’s signature limited golden necklace, and the compilation album can be streamed now on all platforms.
