Bas Aarnink Transports Listeners in “quiet at this time (for your safety)” to a Lo-fi World

Bas Aarnink is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter and producer. He creates a story with every song he writes and isn’t limited to a single genre. Influenced by hip-hop, rock, and alt-pop, Bas makes interesting arrangements and textures. He just released a new EP, titled nature expressing itself, on December 29th.

“quiet at this time (for your safety)” is just one of Bas’s many singles in which he transports listeners to a different world. He mixes in broadcast messages about extraterrestrial objects entering the world’s atmosphere to create a sense of mystery and to develop reasoning for the title. As the first broadcast comes to an end, a string-based instrumental creeps in. It then transitions to a mixed instrumental with added minute vocals and shaking percussives.

The lo-fi vibe continues throughout the song, picking up bits of hip-hop along the way. More of a beat is established after a brief broadcast message and more succinct and humming vocals are interspersed. Guitar strums become increasingly pronounced as longer phrases are introduced. Even as more elements are blended in to develop a broad landscape, the song never overwhelms the listener. It makes for a great add to a chill playlist, given how soothing the sound is.
