AUDREY NUNA is opening her 2023 era with a bang. Her new single “IdgaF” continues to solidify her place as a groundbreaking voice in the modern R&B scene, while also cultivating a sound that is completely her own. The song opens with grainy, overlaid audio that transitions into AUDREY NUNA’s quiet-rap vocals, all backed by an electronic pop beat. This track strays from some of her previous, more intense singles, bringing her unique sound to the forefront.
While consistently releasing music since 2020, Nuna made her biggest splash with her 2022 album liquid breakfast, including attention from major publications including Vogue and The New York Times. The album also featured big rap names, such as Jack Harlow on their song “Comic Sans.” This new single seems to be diverting into a distinctly more pop sound than her previous dedication to R&B, but not so far that it branches from the genre entirely. Instead, it’s clear that AUDREY NUNA isn’t afraid to explore the merging of her different influences, showcasing not only her natural talent but also a strong focus on production.
After growing up in New Jersey, Nuna attended NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, continuing to pursue her degree after beginning to work with her now producer Anwar Sawyer. She later decided to take a gap year to focus on her music full time. “I don’t like the feeling of half-assing anything,” Nuna said. She has since been on a string of producing critically acclaimed hits.
Alongside the single, Nuna released a mesmerizing visualizer that showcases her cycling through identities like a flip-book. The video has a similar sci-fi-ish energy to the single itself, and clearly sets the stage for what she has coming next.
