Self-care and self-love are themes that keep coming up in songs that I’ve been reviewing lately, and I’m honestly here for it. I don’t think there has ever been quite a proliferation of open discussion and advocacy around mental health as we’ve seen in the past few years. It’s also an incredibly monumental gesture when artists like Asheera release tracks that highlight the importance of self-care in an effort to stay truthful to themselves.
Asheera is a 21-year-old Dallas-based alternative R&B singer/songwriter whose soul-infused mellow sounds are aimed to inspire and uplift listeners. She is set apart by her unique sound and talent with freestyling and lyricism. Through her music, she shares her personal perspective on life and growth through relatable experiences and rhythmic and dynamic cadences. Influenced by artists like Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Nina Simone, and SZA, amongst many others, her independent sound is both soothing and inspiring. Her debut EP Refined is set to release later this year.
Her newest single, “Alignment,” produced by Lambeau, is a soulful track that serves as an uplifting and motivational message on staying true to oneself through self-alignment and self-care. Dulcet tones flutter over the R&B-focused production. With a magnetic sway in her voice, Asheera integrates her meaningful message between the calm beats and smooth instrumental samples. The lyrics emphasize the importance of looking within oneself to start seeking out love, fame, and peace because we are our own best advocates.
