Grammy singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist Amanda Shires puts a spin on holiday cheer announces her first Christmas album, For Christmas, out November 12 on Silver Knife/Thirty Tigers. Shires dropped the first LP single, ‘Gone For Christmas’ on October 7, 2021, featuring legendary gospel quartet The McCrary Sisters, accompanied by a video. Shires’ is a member of Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit, and co-founded The Highwomen, an all-women country group featuring Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, and Maren Morris. Last month, Shires released her single, “You Don’t Get To Go,” inspired by author George Saunders, “Tenth Of December” short story.
Grammy singer high-spirited, ‘For Christmas’ track is a holiday banger, country Blues Gospel riffs, fierce violin, and soulful harmonies. Shires’ nonconventional Christmas wish list is over the top. A Kapsradio tower with glittery shades and an airplane with Amanda Shire’s name on it is one of many extreme holiday wishes. I want fifty-two weeks paid vacation/ I want to own my own radio station/ and I want you gone for Christmas. Shires’ music video, co-directed with Deren Ney, red and white retro set is a wildly fun winter wonderland, where she appears vibing. Shire’s wears sunny heart-shaped shades, dressed in multiple casually cool outfits.
Shires For Christmas album includes nine original songs and two covers, including Frank Loesser’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” and “Silent Night.” Shires has also set up the SantaManda Christmas Hotline – 1-833-FOR-XMAS. Fans have the opportunity to call and hear a pre-recorded greeting from the artist herself and encouraging them to leave a message, vent away, good or bad.
