Sleeper Service is an alt-pop duo from Oxford, UK. Bandmates Tom Keogh and Greg Munday formed the project in late October 2018, initially to release a new song that was written in Tom’s flat while Greg was visiting him at university. It was subsequently released as “Daze” on SoundCloud, quickly attracting over 3,000 plays and featured on BBC Radio Introducing Oxford, along with an interview with the band. Having both graduated university in 2020, Tom and Greg hope to bring their eclectic musical tastes and experiences to Sleeper Service in terms of songwriting, production and live performance.
“metamorphic” is their second single of the year and follows their previous melancholic, lyrically compact release, “Saturate.” Influenced by Twenty One Pilots and James Blake, Tom and Greg immerse themselves in beat-heavy production with this second single. Rhythmic pulses are steeped in hazy synths, creating an atmospheric soundscape that balances out the more luminescent vocals. The duo builds alluring arrangements and moods that invoke deep introspection. The melodic patterns ebb and flow throughout the track, with more compositional elements introduced behind the desiring lyrics, engaging listeners with the soothing sounds.
