Alive in Barcelona’s Latest Release Will Cleanse the “Parasite” from Within
Having ignited the airwaves with a charting spot upon the release of their self titled debut, hard rock band, Alive in Barcelona continues to set the pace with their newest release, “Parasite.” The Pacific Northwest five piece project has admittedly been to hell and back, suffering both public and personal losses throughout their careers thus far. However, they’ve more than persevered, channeling all of their energy into their music to offer cathartic places of peace in their work to seek out the lost, the broken, and the hurting.
The group refocused their efforts in order to pursue a message of hope after losing many friends to depression, substance abuse, and consequently, suicide. These trials paved the way for AIB to develop their mission statement: “to inspire hope in those that have none.” The band uses their own stories of personal hardship, struggle, and loss, to relate to their fans, in order to achieve this.
We really want to help hurting people… too many people are depressed and don’t know where to turn. We want our listeners to know that they aren’t alone, and that they can always come to us in times of need.
~ Matt Hoos, Vocalist of AIB
The band’s newest release is the first single toward their upcoming EP, titled Flatline. “Parasite” is a heavy track that webs together all the depth of what they’ve endured thus far, combined with the depth of their lyrical mission to in full, create and capture a soul-penetrating vocal performance with masterful melodic instrumentals. Alongside the song release is a hard-hitting music video to tell the story. It is a song characterized by polarity – choosing between feeding your inner parasite, succumbing to societal pressures, and deciding who you are meant to be amidst questioning your fate:
“Parasite” is a song about discovering things in your life that are toxic, leeching off of your well-being, crippling not only you…but everyone around you. Life is full of regrets, some we can face and conquer, while others eat away at the very fiber of your being. Parasite is about that ‘eating feeling.’ The trial of facing challenges when you don’t have the strength, and the question: “is this who I am supposed to be?
