Last month, DJ Alexion collaborated with DJ Jeff Ozmits to release the new single “Manticore.” The track is out via Paul Van Dyke’s record label, Vandit Alternative, and allows the song space to explore melodic house and innovations in techno music. Alexion is one of Atlanta EDM’s youngest, newest sounds, driven by a wild ambition to share his vision for house music with the world. Jeff Ozmits is the perfect partner for Alexion, known for pushing musical boundaries in progressive house and trance.
“From the beginning, Manticore was designed to be a dark, hard-hitting, melodic house and techno track that was able to be played at clubs and music festivals. We wanted to incorporate unusual sounds and techniques throughout to give the listener something that they’d never heard before.”
With a soft, rolling intro, “Manticore” is a delicate yet funky masterpiece. Intentional electronic elements flit in and out, coloring the track with a warm personality. The back and forth between drum beats follows a unique cadence, and upon layers, the song emits a sense of fulfillment. Simple, choral vocals have their moments throughout, but the heart of the song lies in the techno production. The end is highly dynamic, pulling the listener in for a final cliffhanger.
“Manticore” took three months to curate, but it was vital to both musicians that they found a record label that resonated with their musical manifesto. They looked for four months before striking the deal with Vandit Alternative, who fruitfully brought the single to life. Native to Chicago, Jeff Ozmits is beloved for allowing his attitude to penetrate his music, which is clear in the three mixes he also recently released for A State of Trance: Ibiza 2023. Alexion, aka Jack Burrows, is on the rise in the world of house, coming off of an exciting summer at Deep Tropics and the Imagine Music Festival. His young age does not hold him back in the industry; if anything, it propels him forward. As he taps into fresh creativity, Alexion produces magic in his wake.
